Rheumatologists are doctors of internal medicine focused on immunological disorders that cause arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma and a series of allied conditions. Arthritis Northwest’s rheumatologists have earned the respect of their peers and patients locally and nationally.
Howard M. Kenney, M.D.
Dr. Howard M. Kenney is an Arthritis Northwest founding partner who has held numerous leadership positions with Inland Northwest medical and arthritis related organizations. He holds an undergraduate degree in zoology from the University of Utah where he also earned his M.D. Dr. Kenney completed multiple training and residency fellowships through UCLA at the Kern Medical Center program in Bakersfield, Calif.
Dr. Kenney is an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington and has won multiple academic awards during his career. He is affiliated with Sacred Heart Medical Center and Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. He has been licensed to practice medicine in Washington since 1983.
Sean P. LaSalle, M.D.
Dr. Sean P. LaSalle joined Arthritis Northwest in 2007, returning to Spokane after completing his education and training. Dr. LaSalle spent the past six years at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Ore., serving as an internal medicine resident, chief resident and fellow in rheumatology.
Dr. LaSalle, a Ferris High School graduate, earned his medical degree at the Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans. He will focus exclusively on rheumatology at Arthritis Northwest.
Jeffery B. Butler, M.D.
Dr. Jeff Butler joined Arthritis Northwest as a staff rheumatologist in 2001 after holding a similar position in the Spokane area for 10 years. Dr. Butler is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology as well as by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry. Prior to joining Arthritis Northwest, Dr. Butler taught medicine and rheumatology at Oregon Health Sciences University before going into private practice.
Dr. Butler earned his M.D. at Tufts University School of Medicine, completed residency at Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh and was a Fellow of Rheumatology at the Oregon Health Sciences University. He is also extensively involved in clinical research as a principal investigator.
Michael C. Coan, DO
Dr. Michael Casey Coan joined ANW in 2019 after living and practicing Rheumatology in the Spokane, WA and Coeur D Alene, ID since 2012. He completed his training in Fort Worth, TX at the University of North Texas. He is trained as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and went to medical school at Des Moines University in Iowa. Gary L. Craig, M.D., Retired
Dr. Gary L. Craig joined Arthritis Northwest in 2005 following 24 years of private and university practice in Spokane and Toronto. Dr. Craig is also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington and a past clinical associate professor and director of the Rheumatology Training Program at McMaster University. He is a member of many professional associations including the American College of Rheumatology, American Society of Clinical Rheumatology, Northwest Rheumatism Association and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Craig earned his M.D. at McMaster University where he also completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He is actively involved in clinical research and has authored or co-authored many articles on arthritis and its related conditions.
Eric C. Mueller , M.D.
Dr. Eric C. Mueller joined Arthritis Northwest in 2008, returning to Spokane after completing his education and training. Dr. Mueller spent the past six years at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, serving as an internal medicine resident, chief resident and fellow in rheumatology.
Dr. Mueller, a Lewis & Clark High School graduate, earned his medical degree at the University of Washington. He will focus exclusively on rheumatology at Arthritis Northwest.
Christopher Wright, MD
Dr. Christopher Wright joined Arthritis Northwest in 2017. He trained as a rheumatology fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX after completing a residency in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Wright grew up in Amarillo, TX and completed undergraduate studies at the University of Texas, followed by medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr Wright and his wife have 3 children, and they are enjoying life in the Inland Northwest. When he’s not seeing patients with arthritis and autoimmune diseases, Dr. Wright enjoys hiking, jazz and other music, gardening, and reading history and science fiction.
Patients and patient care come first at Arthritis Northwest. Our highly skilled practitioners improve patient access by handling routine follow-up and daily drop-in appointments. Arthritis Northwest doctor’s schedules are booked weeks in advance. Practitioners give patients the flexibility to see an Arthritis Northwest healthcare provider with limited notice. Arthritis Northwest physicians are available to consult with practitioners as necessary. Your physician will review chart notes summarizing the visit to remain current about your health and treatment.
Dale Raschko, PA-C
Dale Raschko is a certified physician assistant. He has been with Arthritis Northwest since 2009, and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington in Clinical Health Services. His career in healthcare has afforded him the opportunity to work in occupational medicine and as an Army medic. Raschko also served as a combat medicine instructor for the Army. Following his service in the Army, Raschko graduated from the Physician Assistant program at the University of Washington.
Erin Saunders, PA-C
Erin Saunders is a certified physician assistant. Saunders has been with Arthritis Northwest since 2006, and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Whitworth College and the Intercollegiate Center for Nursing Education and a physician assistant degree from the University of Washington. She has worked as an R.N. in a variety of settings, including public health, family medicine, pediatrics and OB/GYN.
Diana Webster, ARNP
Diana Webster is an advanced registered nurse practitioner that joined Arthritis Northwest in 2007. Webster earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Carroll College. She has worked as a nurse in a variety of sub-specialties including intensive care, emergency room, neurological/neurosurgical and pediatrics. Webster received her master’s degree in nursing at Gonzaga University.
Penny Sather, ARNP
Penny Sather is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. She joined Arthritis Northwest in 2019. Penny earned her nursing degree at the Spokane Community College. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing, Health Systems Leadership and a second Master of Science in Nursing, Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner from Gonzaga University. She has worked as an RN in a variety of subspecialties including intensive care, ophthalmology, orthopedics and cardiology.
Courtney L. Smyth, DNP, ARNP
Courtney Smyth is an advanced practice nurse practitioner that joined Arthritis Northwest in 2020. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from San Jose State University. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Gonzaga University. Courtney’s career includes intensive care, cardiac catherization and electrophysiology lab, ambulatory surgery, and oncology. She has also worked as an ICU nurse internationally in Sydney, NSW, Australia. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, entertaining, and outdoor recreation.
Christopher M. Valley, ND.
Dr. Valley graduated from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. With the initial intent of pursuing a conventional medical degree, Dr. Valley decided to pursue a degree in Naturopathic Medicine because of a keen interest in clinical nutrition, exercise science, and preventive medicine. He then graduated from The National College of Naturopathic Medicine (the oldest accredited Naturopathic medical school in the U.S.) with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2004.
Dr. Valley practiced in family medicine for 7 years with a focus on Sports Medicine, Inflammatory/Autoimmune disorders, and Endocrinology. He began practicing at Arthritis Northwest in 2011. Dr. Valley's approach is to combine conventional western medicine with well researched natural medicine.
The practice of naturopathic medicine blends modern and traditional approaches to health.
